DCW is seeking an experienced Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Cost Estimator to join our growing team. The MEP Estimator will prepare conceptual and design-phase estimates for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related building systems. This role supports architects, engineers, and owners by providing reliable cost analysis throughout all stages of design.
The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of building systems, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate cost information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction document cost estimates for MEP systems.
Perform quantity takeoffs for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and related systems.
Develop and maintain unit cost databases for MEP components and assemblies.
Review drawings, specifications, and design documentation to identify scope and cost impacts.
Conduct constructability and value engineering reviews related to building systems.
Provide cost comparisons and options analysis to support design decisions.
Coordinate with DCW’s architectural, structural, and general estimating staff to develop comprehensive project estimates.
Attend client meetings, design reviews, and project workshops as needed.
Prepare clear, organized estimate reports for clients and project stakeholders.
Track market conditions, labor rates, and material pricing trends affecting MEP systems.

Requirements
Required Qualifications
5–10+ years of experience in MEP estimating, MEP construction, or building systems cost analysis.
Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems used in commercial and institutional construction.
Experience preparing estimates from conceptual planning through construction documents.
Proficiency with construction estimating software and digital takeoff tools.
Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary consulting environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience estimating public sector or institutional projects such as higher education, healthcare, or civic facilities.
Background working for a mechanical or electrical contractor, engineering firm, or cost consulting firm.
Familiarity with AACE estimate classifications, Uniformat, and CSI MasterFormat.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, or related field.
Professional certifications such as Certified Cost Professional (CCP), CEP, or similar are a plus.
