Description
Residential Renovation and Finish Work on Martha's Vineyard
We’re looking for a carpenter who thrives on solving problems, shaping spaces, and ensuring homes stay strong and beautiful.
ROLE
You’ll be the go-to carpenter for keeping Island homes safe, beautiful, and built to last. One week it’s restoring a historic window, the next it’s trimming out a new addition. You’ll work inside and out—on the roof, in the basement, and everywhere in between—bringing skill and creativity to projects that matter to our clients and community.
In this role, you’ll solve problems on the fly, draw on your years of experience, and balance both rough and finish carpentry with care. Sometimes you’ll work independently with full autonomy; other times you’ll collaborate with a larger crew. Either way, you’ll be part of a worker-owned company that values trust, humor, and lasting relationships.
Along the way, you’ll connect directly with clients, offering not just craftsmanship but reassurance—helping them adapt and care for the places that mean the most in their lives.
We offer an exceptional, family-friendly compensation package, including medical/dental/vision insurance (SMCo covers the full deductible), profit sharing, 401k, and the potential for ownership.

- Plan and sequence your work carefully to achieve high-quality results
- Use and maintain a broad array of tools with skill and care
- Tackle unexpected challenges with resourcefulness, patience, and good humor
- Communicate clearly with teammates and clients—by phone, in person, in writing, and through digital tools
- Provide thoughtful, attentive service in finished and occupied spaces
- Work safely at all times, following OSHA and South Mountain safety standards
WHAT YOU BRING
- At least 10 years of carpentry experience, spanning both rough and finish work

WHERE & HOW YOU'LL WORK
- Physical strength and stamina to lift, carry, and handle materials regularly
- Ability to work at heights (ladders, roofs, scaffolding, and staging)
- Comfort working in confined spaces (attics, basements, crawlspaces)
- Readiness for year-round outdoor work in all Island weather conditions
- Flexibility to adapt to different jobsite settings—sometimes with close supervision, other times independently with full responsibility
WHAT YOU VALUE
- Careful, precise work that stands the test of time
- Stewardship of buildings, tools, and materials
- Making a meaningful impact through your craft
- Collaboration, teamwork, and open communication
- Lifelong learning and professional growth
- Creative problem-solving and adaptability
