Company History
Our history is based on the unity found within a family of independent companies dedicated to building leaders in the life safety, energy, specialty construction and infrastructure industries.
We proudly trace our roots back to 1926 when A.P.I. Inc. was established as a small insulation contracting and distribution division of the mechanical company Reuben L. Anderson-Cherne. Lee R. Anderson, Sr. became president of the family business in 1964. Under his leadership, Anderson expanded operations in the Midwest region, increasing revenues to about $30 million.
In 1980, Anderson launched a strategic initiative to diversify A.P.I. Inc. within the construction and construction-related industries. The company went on to expand into key markets, establishing both a national and international presence. In 1997, the company became APi Group Inc.
The APi Group leadership approach, solid customer relationships, financial strength and preparation are keys to our outstanding success. We have withstood the economic downturns of 2001 and 2009-2011 while remaining a billion-dollar business through each recession. We continue to invest in technology, acquire profitable businesses as well as develop and invest in our employees.
Today, APi Group is recognized as one of the largest specialty contractors in North America. We are a multi-billion-dollar parent company to more than 40 independently managed life safety, energy, specialty construction and infrastructure companies in over 200 locations worldwide.
While we continue to prosper, exciting new opportunities for growth and expansion are on the horizon. At APi Group, we continue to fund promising acquisitions and new ventures while supporting current subsidiaries to do what they do best and provide them access to tools to become even better.
