R. E. Lee Companies, Inc. (REL) traces its history from 1939 into a group of independent businesses engaged in the commercial building construction industry.
Our independent businesses are organized as a Prime Group and a Trade Group. The Prime Group (Piedmont Development Group, R. E. Lee & Son, and Piedmont Facilities Management) all serve building owners and developers directly. The Trade Group (Piedmont Concrete Contractors, Piedmont Plaster & Drywall, and Piedmont Waterproofing Contractors) serves general contractors and construction managers. Each set of companies markets itself differently as they have unique expertise to serve their clients and projects.
The Prime Group provides a full life cycle of services to real estate developers and building owners from concept to construction to operation. We can provide any portion of our services or the full suite of services to meet your needs. By serving clients, R. E. Lee Companies builds relationships that last and serves our clients’ best interest.
The Trade Group provides first class service to regional construction managers on institutional projects. PCC and PP&D are often selected because the success of the project is dependent on the capability of the trades actually building the project. PWC is recognized by its commitment to quality and collaborative approach to evaluating, preventing, and remediating water damage issues to building structures. By serving clients, the Trade Group performs almost all of their work for repeat clients who value the high standard in construction services.

Our market area is predominantly Charlottesville and Central Virginia, but we do cover most of Virginia. REL’s primary market is construction and renovation of commercial and institutional buildings, both public and private. We also have a deep history of historic restorations and unusual projects of extraordinary complexity. Our work experience continues to include the most complex construction challenges. Most of our work is negotiated as our clients recognize the value our company brings to the planning and development of
